Black Student Union hosted its first movie screening on Monday, in which students came to watch the musical “The Color Purple” in the atrium.

“To acknowledge Black History Month, we wanted to be able to show the newest ‘Color Purple’ movie that was adapted by Alice Walker,” club adviser Christopher Brown said.

The club plans to host an “I Have a Dream” event on Tuesday, Feb. 27, where members can dress up as what they want to be in the future. They will also be visiting the People’s Light Theatre Company to view the play “The Ripple, The Wave That Carried Me Home” later in the week.

“We want it to be able to provide an educational field trip that sits around an African American story,” Brown said.
