On Tuesday, the girls’ varsity basketball team lost to Garnet Valley 43-42.

The girls started strong with junior Ruth Lanouette, senior Marisa Francione and sophomore Ryann Jennings leading. They ended the first quarter up 12-10, continuing the momentum in the second quarter and entering halftime 22-19.

In the second half, the Pioneers fell behind but made a comeback with senior Isabella Valencia shooting two 3-pointers. The score was close, with each team losing and regaining its one point lead. In the end, with numerous timeouts later, the girls came up short 43-42 due to shots scored by Garnet Valley with less than a minute on the clock.

The girls will play again in the Central League playoffs on Saturday, Feb. 10.
