On Friday, May 8, excited sixth graders at Tredyffrin/Easttown Middle School attended a surprise assembly featuring the host of The World from A to Z. Sixth grade social studies teachers William Parker and Richard Mattison organized the event.
For sixth graders, social studies typically begins with The World from A to Z, a 10-minute Youtube news program hosted by Carl Azuz. The show updates students on global events from a nonpartisan perspective.
Azuz visits schools across the country to discuss the program, explain how it works, and answer students’ questions.
“Most of my job is looking at a camera lens. So if I’m able to interact with the stakeholders, the students who see the show, the teachers who show the program, that brings more value. It makes it real.” Azuz said. “These (in-person presentations) give me the chance to interact, to hear feedback, to hear what’s working, to hear what people want to see more of. That’s incredible value, more so than what you get through an email survey.”
