On Friday, Feb. 20, the boys’ ice hockey team beat Haverford 5-3.
’Stoga and Haverford opened the game evenly matched, with both teams maintaining a strong defense and attempting to score in the beginning. In the final four minutes of the period, Haverford scored two goals, bringing the score up to 2-0.
During the second period, the Pioneers responded by limiting scoring opportunities and tightening up defense. Although Haverford extended its lead to 3-0 with three minutes remaining, freshman Logan Harris put ’Stoga on the board with three seconds left, ending the period 3-1.
The boys tied the score 3-3 going into the final period, as junior Sawyer Getz and senior Stephen Branov made goals respectively. Branov scored another goal with 34 seconds left, and junior Henry Spottiswoode sealed the win with a last-second goal, ending the game with a final score of 5-3.
