On Saturday, May 16, juniors gathered in the ballroom and danced under sparkling lights at the The Valley Forge Sheraton in Malvern from 6-10 p.m. for their junior prom. This year’s theme, “Starry Night”, featured sparkling decorations and vibrant lights as students danced away the night.
The night started off with food as students filed into the aisle outside the ballroom for a buffet-style dinner, consisting of salad, pasta and chicken. Students proceeded onto the dance floor and danced to songs such as “Low” by Flo Rida, “Blow” by Kesha and “Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond.
The junior class student council has been planning and brainstorming throughout the year for prom, including fundraisers and class polls. Junior class president Lucy Salata described the preparations student council dedicated to organizing prom.
“This year we decided to do a starry night theme. Then we plan our decorations based off of that,” Salata said. “And then we see what the students want to do, what music they want. We base it off the students’ opinions to make sure that everyone has a great time.”
Students enjoyed refreshments in the back of the ballroom as well as a photo booth. The photo booth offered a variety of props, such as crowns, pom-poms and glasses. Around 8 p.m., the waiters served ice cream in the main lobby.
“I love the props. I wore this crown and it was really cute. I’m overall really happy with the photo booth,” sophomore and attendee Sana Bhattacharyya said.
Juniors look forward to prom throughout their entire junior year. They purchased tickets for $95 in the weeks leading up to the event during lunches.
“What I was looking forward to the most was getting ready with my friends. It was really fun to do our make up, put on our dresses and stuff like that,” junior Sasha Brown said.
