After a dominant second half, the boys’ varsity soccer team beat Downingtown East 5-1 in the semifinals of the PIAA District 1 4A Boys Soccer Championship on Tuesday.

The boys opened the first half with a goal from senior Ethan Howard. Less than five minutes later, Downingtown East responded with a goal of its own, bringing the score to 1-1 by halftime.

From what seemed to be a head-to-head game in the first half, seniors Kole Wintersteen and Ryan Zellefrow opened the second half by scoring back-to-back goals within minutes of each other, giving ’Stoga a 3-1 lead. The boys kept pushing the ball up the pitch, eventually ending with one goal each from seniors Westin Fryberger and Charlie Culbert and winning the game 5-1.

The team advances to the district finals on Saturday, Nov. 4.
