Leading into the Varsity District One Tournament the Conestoga girls’ basketball team was ready for some tough competition. On Friday, Feb. 12, the girls started the tournament vs. Unionville with a win in what proved to be an aggressive and fast-paced game. Not only was the night successful for the team but there was an electric atmosphere for all, with food, song remixes and a vocal student section that grew throughout the game.
The crowd was small at the start but no less excited to begin the first quarter with the ’Stoga girls being aggressive on offense and defense. The girls were already up by 9 points in the first four minutes before Unionville had a chance to catch up. Mack, number 50, had an awesome three pointer to bring the score up to 16-2 in favor of Conestoga with two minutes left. Koblish, number 20, also had a great 3 pointer in the 4th quarter and also received a foul shot for being pushed into her own bench by a Unionville player.
Conestoga made successful steals to take possession throughout the game. In the 3rd quarter, number 33, Liz Scott, stole the ball from a Unionville player nearly knocking her to the ground before passing the ball to a teammate. Mack and Koblish repeatedly dove to save the ball from going out of bounds and the entire ‘Stoga team was driving relentlessly to the basket, scoring from the inside. At the end of the 4th quarter Conestoga had beat Unionville 45 to 31 and the crowd was roaring.
