The ‘Stoga drama “The Taming of the Shrew” revives the Shakespeare comedy with slapstick scenes, witty jokes and a sassy “Katherine the Curst.” The show uses the original Shakespearean language, however the costume and set are based on Italy in the 1950s, bringing a twist to the classic.
“The Taming of the Shrew” follows two starkly different sisters. Three suitors pursue the sweet, younger daughter, Bianca. However, Bianca cannot get married until the eldest daughter, Katherine is married, which proves difficult considering she is “an intolerable curst.” But her scolding tongue does not discourage headstrong Petruchio from trying to woo her for her wealth. Meanwhile, Bianca’s suitors disguise themselves as tutors and chaos and comedy ensue.
“The Taming of the Shrew” shows run Nov.19-21. Tickets are sold at stogatheatre.com.
