On Saturday, Oct. 31 the boys’ varsity soccer team crushed Abington 4-0 in the second round of playoffs. While Abington put up a fight, it wasn’t enough to stop the Pioneers. Sophomore Chris Donovan scored two goals, and seniors Pedro Acosta and Danny Leiser each had a goal, most notably Leiser’s bicycle kick goal in the second half. Senior goalie Will Smith held down the defensive end throughout the game.
“I thought it was the best game we’ve played so far. It’s pretty rare to get a 4-0 win in playoffs, and we did that,” Smith said. “Especially since it’s out last game on Teamer this year and ever for the seniors, it was awesome to get a 4-0 win.”
The team plays its last playoff game on Wednesday against Springfield to determine seating for the State Tournament.
“Well, obviously we’re looking to win, and we want to get the best seat possible,” Smith said. “We’ve beaten Springfield before and we can do it again. But I’m really looking for the best from our team, and that’s what we gave today.”
