On May 16th, the Pioneer softball fans were on their feet. It was a close game at Conestoga’s home diamond against the fierce Upper Darby, but in the end, the pioneer’s suffered the loss. ‘Stoga started out behind, but it wasn’t long before first pitcher Callie Wang and her field mates, including catcher Emme Rycyzyn who made some unbelievable grabs, slowed Darby’s streak. In the second half, incredible field plays were made by short-stop Emily Conaway and first base Caleigh Sturgeon, not to even mention the electric pitches Gi Lorine threw. In the batter’s cage, Olivia Cepielik and Callie Wang made strong hits that sent their teammates running around the bases. But overall, Upper Darby took ‘Stoga by surprise bringing in ten runs, while the Pioneers only had two. Although it was the last original scheduled game for the varsity softball team, they held their own and finished the season with their heads held high.
