The Conestoga boys basketball team narrowly lost to the Ridley Raiders on Wednesday, Jan 20.
Both defenses played strongly the entire game. The Raiders capitalized on a few key shots to take a 7 point lead early on. The Pioneers struggled with their field goal accuracy, and the Raiders took a 24-18 lead into the half.
During halftime, former student Sonny DiMartini sank a half court shot with nothing but net.
The Pioneers started to find their rhythm in the second half, bringing the lead down to five at times. Late in the fourth quarter, the Pioneers caught fire and started to challenge Ridley’s almost game long lead. The Raiders saw their lead dwindle to 45-42 with 1:09 remaining. However, the Pioneers simply ran out of time. The Raiders converted a key foul shot with 20 seconds left to take a two possession lead. The final score gave the Raiders a 50-44 win.
The Pioneers are still in the playoff race with an 11-5 record (8-3 in the Central League). The team next faces Lower Merion on the road on Friday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.
