Early into the first set, Bayard Rustin established its lead. Despite a strong series of aces from freshman Julia Long, the girls were unable to narrow the score. Bayard Rustin continued to dominate, and the Pioneers lost the first set 25-16.
Intending to maintain high energy and focus on hitting a high ball off the blockers, ’Stoga began the second set with a tie. Key contributions were made by senior Audrey D’Ascanio, with an ace, and freshman Mabel Najdek, with powerful serves. In a close set, the girls fell short 25-17.
In the third set, Bayard Rustin maintained its lead. ’Stoga put up a fight, but Bayard Rustin took the third set 25-13.
The girls will play their next game on Monday, Oct. 13 against Harriton.
