On Wednesday night, the girls volleyball team fell short to Springfield 3-0.
Throughout the first set, ’Stoga was neck-and-neck with Springfield. Junior Emory Owens led the offense with strong serves and spikes, serving an ace mid-set. Ultimately, ’Stoga could not bridge the gap and lost the first set 25-17.
’Stoga switched up their strategy in the second set, focusing more on defense. Freshman and libero Julia Long established a strong back row against Springfield’s hits with her digs and saves. Both teams were tied 21-21. Unfortunately, ’Stoga failed to capture the set despite an impressive kick save by senior Leighton Hornaday, losing 25-21.
’Stoga maintained their defensive strategy for the third set, but was unable to pull ahead from Springfield. The team made a comeback at game point 24-11, gaining back five match points. However, Springfield secured the win at 25-16.
The girls’ next home game will be on Friday, Oct. 10, against West Chester Bayard Rustin.
