On Saturday, the girls’ lacrosse team defeated Archbishop John Carroll High School 10-9 in a closely contested game.
Conestoga started the game strong, scoring three straight goals, but Archbishop Carroll scored twice to shrink Conestoga’s lead, including a goal scored just as the first quarter was ending. In the second quarter, Conestoga expanded its lead to 5-3 before Archbishop Carroll scored a goal with five seconds left in the quarter, tying the score 5-5 at halftime.
In the second half, Conestoga regained the lead, bringing the score to 8-6 at the end of the third quarter. During the fourth quarter, Archbishop Carroll was able to tie the game, bringing the score to 8-8. After Conestoga and Archbishop Carroll traded goals, the game was tied at 9-9. With seven seconds left in the game, freshman Julia Cowgill scored, giving Conestoga a 10-9 win.
With the win, the team improves to 12-4 on the season. The girls play Marple Newtown next on May 6.
