On Tuesday, the girls’ lacrosse team dominated Lower Merion, winning 16-3.
The girls started off with a strong lead in the first quarter, with freshman Price Orcutt scoring within the first three minutes of the game. Lower Merion responded with a goal shortly after, tying the score 1-1. Sophomore Lu Misener quickly widened the Pioneers’ lead by adding a point. Senior Georgia Rios and junior Carolyn Jones scored a goal each, bringing Conestoga up 4-1. Freshman Brooke Bickel sealed the girls’ lead by netting two goals within the last minute, ending the period 6-1.
In the second quarter, the Pioneers began with an early goal from junior Maggie Neary, assisted by freshman Lia Messina. The team’s strong offense continued as Rios, Messina and sophomore Bianca Antonacci scored a point each, bringing Conestoga up to 10-1. Lower Merion scored twice in the final two minutes, but Conestoga maintained its lead and finished the quarter with a score of 10-3.
The girls extended their lead in the third period while keeping up a solid defense against Lower Merion. Jones scored early in the quarter, followed by a goal from freshman Julia Cowgill, assisted by Antonacci. Then, Messina scored a goal assisted by Misener, bringing the Pioneers up to 13-3. Senior Grace DeVuono scored a point and junior Emily Todd added a goal with another assist from Misener. The Pioneers ended the quarter with a final goal from junior Addie Neibert, assisted by junior Audrey Dyer, solidifying their lead 16-3.
Conestoga kept up a strong defense in the last quarter, preventing Lower Merion from scoring further goals and ultimately winning the game with a final score of 16-3.
The girls will play their next game on April 26 against Henderson.
