The girls’ lacrosse team, the defending PIAA 3A state champions, soared past Strath Haven to win its third game of the season 15-8 on Tuesday.
The Pioneers set the tone early, with senior Georgia Rios scoring within the first three minutes. Additional goals from junior Carolyn Jones and freshman Price Orcutt gave Conestoga a 3-0 lead. Strath Haven responded with two goals, closing the gap to 3-2 by the end of the first quarter.
Conestoga regained control in the second quarter after Strath Haven tied the score 3-3. Freshman Brooke Bickel scored to break the tie, followed by Orcutt and Jones netting additional goals. Bickel’s second goal, with an assist by freshman Julia Cowgill, and another goal by Rios put the Pioneers up 8-3. Although Strath Haven scored another goal, Conestoga held a 9-4 lead by halftime.
Jones opened the second half of the game with her third goal, extending the lead to 10-4. Strath Haven added four more goals to the scoreboard, but Conestoga’s attack continued, with Orcutt, Cowgill and senior Maddie Pulliam all scoring.
Jones pushed the lead to 15-7 with her fourth goal. Although Strath Haven added a final goal, Conestoga won the game 15-8.
The girls play their next game on April 1 against Ridley.
