Not all magicians wear hats — some wear purple galaxy-colored jerseys.
On Friday, the Foundation for Learning in Tredyffrin/Easttown (FLITE), a nonprofit established and partnered with TESD to support student needs, hosted its annual Harlem Wizards game in Conestoga’s large gym at 7:00 p.m to raise funds for educational programs and resources for district students. Rather than a competitive game show, audience members came to see the Wizards, who aim to entertain by performing a variety of basketball tricks.
Attendees could buy food and drinks such as pizza, pretzels and Gatorade, and could also purchase gifts at the souvenir table such as wristbands, basketballs and team posters of the Wizards.
The large gym was filled with energetic cheers from the stands as the Wizards played against the Pioneers, a team made up of district students and faculty. Small intermissions accompanied the light-hearted and low-stakes game with backflips, dancing and entertaining roleplay. At halftime, the Pioneers held a close lead 44-42. By the end of the game, the Wizards made a steady comeback, winning 78-75.
