On Tuesday, the boys’ basketball team’s comeback effort fell short in a 70-63 overtime loss to Lower Merion.
The Pioneers started the game off with a lead of 6-2, and they were able to maintain their advantage throughout the first quarter. Conestoga ended the quarter with a 13-10 lead.
Lower Merion dominated the second quarter, taking a 30-20 lead at halftime. Conestoga narrowed the gap to 46-41 at the end of the third quarter, but in the fourth quarter, Lower Merion extended its advantage to 55-44. The Pioneers then slowly eroded that deficit, culminating in a two-pointer by senior Ben Robinson with 0.3 seconds left to tie the game 58-58.
In overtime, Lower Merion gained the lead early and never lost it, despite a three-pointer by Robinson. Conestoga ultimately lost 70-63.
With the loss, the team’s overall record drops to 12-5. The boys’ next home game is against Garnet Valley on Saturday, Feb. 1.
