On Saturday, the girls’ basketball team defeated Springfield 47-19.
Conestoga fought in a tightly contested first quarter, down 10-9 due to a field goal scored by Springfield in the last seconds of the quarter. However, the Pioneers scored numerous free throws and field goals in the second quarter to take the lead 24-12.
At halftime, the team recognized former Conestoga basketball coach Pete Ricci, who passed away from cancer in 2019. In honor of Ricci, the team will donate the money raised from the game to Cancer for College, a charity that helps cancer survivors pursue higher education.
The Pioneers continued to score in the third quarter, with field goals from junior Ryann Jennings and seniors Ruth Lanouette and Janie Preston contributing to a 36-16 lead. Ultimately, Conestoga won the game 47-19.
The girls play next against Marple Newton on Friday, Jan. 17 for their Senior Night.
