The boys’ basketball team beat Upper Darby 58-40 in its home opener on Tuesday.
In the first quarter, junior Rowan Miller scored the first points. Later, juniors Cory Hogan and Shane O’Brien and senior Sam Gibbs scored, helping give Conestoga a 15-8 lead entering the second quarter.
Gibbs scored three points for Conestoga at the beginning of the second quarter, followed by another basket by O’Brien, assisted by Miller. Sophomore Luke Hunter assisted Miller in scoring a three-pointer, followed by baskets by Hogan and Hunter. Gibbs made another basket at the buzzer, giving the team a 27-20 lead heading into halftime.
Hogan scored the first basket for Conestoga in the third quarter, assisted by Miller. Gibbs scored two consecutive baskets, and Miller and Hogan each scored for the Pioneers. The game entered the final quarter 43-26 with Conestoga in the lead.
In the final quarter, O’Brien and sophomore Sunny Tummala scored consecutive three-pointers, followed by a basket from Hogan. O’Brien scored again, followed by Tummala, bringing the final score to 58-40.
The boys will play their next game against Garnet Valley on Dec. 19.
