On Saturday, hundreds of students from high schools across the tri-state area flooded Teamer Field for one purpose: to put on a show. Nine other marching bands accompanied the Pioneers in a three-hour showcase, where band and color guard members performed their 2024 shows for a panel of judges.
Of the five schools included in the Independence A Conference class, the Plymouth Whitemarsh Colonials took first place and the Best Auxiliary Award for their show “The Golden Rule,” which featured sparkling costumes and flags and a selection of songs from arias to folk rock. In the Liberty A Conference class, the Kennett Marching Blue Demons’ “Wanted” show in which cowboys and outlaws faced off on the field secured the band first place and the Best Auxiliary Award. In the last class, Conestoga Valley Buckskin Marching Band’s colorful “Journey of the Heart” pulled the band into first place and won it the Best Auxiliary Award in the American A Conference class.
Kennett’s cowboys took the overall High Visual Award, and the Haverford Marching Band’s show “Bloom” won the overall High Music Award for its flowery costumes, flags and props.
Although not part of the three classes that competed for awards, the Conestoga Pioneer Marching Band ended the night with its show “Pixar,” where members played and danced along to songs from classic animated films “The Incredibles,” “Cars,” “Coco” and “Toy Story.”
