On Tuesday, the boys’ varsity basketball team took on Marple Newtown, ultimately losing 45-43.
Marple Newtown led early on, with a score of 9-0 three minutes into the game, and ended the first quarter 15-7. The team widened its lead over Conestoga, securing a score of 25-15 by halftime.
Conestoga ended the third quarter losing 37-29, but the Pioneers started to close the margin in the following quarter. With a minute left in the game, Marple Newtown led 43-39. After two hoops and a foul shot within the last 30 seconds of the third quarter, the teams were tied 43-43.
In the final second of the game, Marple Newtown scored a 2-point buzzer beater, winning the game 45-43.
The game marks the Pioneers’ third loss in the Central League with a record of 7-3. The team’s next game is on Thursday, Jan. 25 against Haverford.
