Wrestling defeats Penncrest 38-24

The boys’ varsity wrestling team took down Penncrest on Wednesday, earning a final score of 38-24.

Penncrest started strong, earning seven points in the first two matches. The Pioneers struck back with pins by sophomore Bryan Jang and junior Matthew Smith, scoring 12 points in total.

Conestoga and Penncrest earned three and eight points, respectively, from the fifth to eighth matches and entered the ninth match down 21-15. During the match, the boys tied the score with a pin from junior Miles Warkentine.

In the ninth and 10th matches, the score remained close with the Pioneers in the lead 26-24. Continuing the momentum, they secured a 38-24 win following a pin from junior Pavel Chernousov and a forfeit by Penncrest in the 12th match.

With the victory, the team has a seasonal record of 4-9. The team will compete next at Stephen Decatur’s War on the Shore tournament from Jan. 12 to Jan. 13.
