On Friday, Desi Club hosted its annual Diwali Night event in the cafeteria from 4-7 p.m. to celebrate Diwali, a five-day festival of lights celebrated in November this year. The club sold tickets in advance for $10 each.
The night included several activities, such as coloring, dancing and participating in a raffle. To decorate, the club placed small candles intermittently on the tables. Many students also wore traditional garb for the event.
Around 5 p.m., students gathered together for a buffet-like dinner with foods brought by attendees and provided refreshments. The meal included South Asian dishes such as samosas, paneer tikka masala and vegetarian biryani. Dr. Oscar Torres, director of equity and public programs at TESD, joined the students for dinner. Afterwards, festivities continued.
