Haverford struck first during Friday night’s Varsity Football game, taking a 0-7 lead over Conestoga in the first quarter. The Pioneers secured a lead in the second quarter, getting in the end zone on both defense and offense for a score of 12-7 heading into halftime. However, Haverford would retake the lead with another touchdown. It wasn’t looking good for Conestoga with Haverford having the ball deep in Pioneer territory late in the fourth quarter. Thankfully for the Pioneers, their defense came up with a huge fourth-down stop, giving the offense a chance to win the game.
Conestoga drove down to the Haverford three-yard line, where, with four seconds left, kicker Charlie White made his second game-winning kick in the last three games to win it for Conestoga, 15-14.
The Pioneers’ record improves to 3-1 with the victory. Their next game is the Homecoming football game on Friday, Sept. 23 against Marple Newtown High School at Teamer Field.
