Chandra Singh is Conestoga’s new addition to the administration as ninth grade assistant principal. She has been working in the education field for eight years in a wide variety of positions ranging from history to arts to administration in the Philadelphia school district and at the Philadelphia Military Academy.
“I was a Social Studies and English teacher, so I taught ninth grade World History, 11th grade American History and 12th grade social science. I’ve taught 11th and 12th grade English and then I also taught 10th grade drama, which was probably my favorite class to teach” said Singh.
Singh said one of the biggest changes about Conestoga compared to other schools she has worked at is the large size. One of the previous schools Singh worked at only had 320 students and Conestoga has over 2,000 students.
“I knew everyone and got to know their history and here it almost feels impossible to learn 2400-2600 student names” said Singh.
Despite the change in size, Singh had been loving her time at Conestoga. She is enjoying learning more about the culture, climate and diverse backgrounds of all of the students.
“Everyone has been very welcoming and that’s been a great environment, everyone is open to providing suggestions and assisting in any way they can” says Singh.
Although education is Singh’s biggest passion, she does have a life outside of school. Singh moved to West Chester in August with her son and their dog Ruger and enjoys exploring her new town with them. Her favorite foods are Thai and pepperoni pizza (not eaten together) and she loves making pizza from scratch when she can.
Singh is looking forward to beginning a new chapter of her career at Conestoga Highschool.
“I’m excited to learn more about the students and get involved in all of the activities that Conestoga has to offer” said Singh.
