The Conestoga girls basketball team defeated the Lower Merion Aces 47-29 on Friday, Jan. 22.

The Pioneers scored early and often out of the gate. Tight defense helped to create an early 16-2 lead by the start of the second quarter. The Pioneers improved on field goal completion through the game to continue their high scoring offense. Seniors Ellie Mack and Sondra Dickey made several key rebounds to ensure that almost every Pioneer possession resulted in points. The lead stretched to 28-7 at the half.

As the third quarter began, it was clear that the Aces made some adjustments to spark the stalled offense. Lower Merion improved their shooting and managed to bring the lead down to 15. However, the Pioneers took a strategic time out and reasserted themselves on the floor with strong fundamentals, lights out defense and tough, physical play. The Pioneers stretched a 15 point lead even further to win 47-29 and proved why they are the Central League leaders.

The win improves the Pioneers to 14-2 on the season (11-1 in the Central League). The team next faces Penncrest at home on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 3:45 p.m. in a key match before a highly anticipated double header the following Friday.
