Boys varsity lacrosse puts up a fight against St. Sebastian’s School

On Saturday, March 30, the varsity boys’ lacrosse team faced off against St. Sebastian’s School, a team ranked eighth in the country by Inside Lacrosse.

Starting off strong, the Pioneers got in three goals in the first quarter, beginning the game with a score of 3-0. St Sebastian’s got their first goal with eight minutes left in the first quarter, tying it up 3-3 by the time it was over.

Entering the second quarter with a tie, St. Sebastian’s stole the lead, finishing off the quarter with a score of 5-3.

At the end of the first half, the Pioneers were down 6-3, but spirits were high when senior Will Schnorr scored for ‘Stoga in the third quarter, making it 7-4. Another goal for the Pioneers was made in the third quarter by freshman Patrick Reilly. Finishing off the quarter with a score of 8-5, the Pioneers were hoping for a comeback.

The fourth quarter was swarmed by 3 goals from St. Sebastian’s, ending the game with a Pioneer loss and a score of 11-6. Team members like junior attacker Brendan Murphy saw this game as a learning opportunity.

“St. Sebs was a really tough team. I thought we came out well but couldn’t put together a full game,” Murphy said. “I’m glad we got to play such a good team this early in the season and hopefully it will help us get better.”
